Course Code : P209-C3

Description

This course is only available as a private event, i.e. for one customer.  Any number of delegates may attend a private event, although numbers should be limited to a reasonable amount in order to allow the trainer to attend to the individual needs of each delegate.

This course is similar to the Practitioner course, but it is run over 3 days, as opposed to the usual 2.  The benefit of this approach is that delegates have a full day extra to absorb the large amount of information contained in the Practitioner syllabus.  We are able to use a larger range of exercises to illustrate, demonstrate and involve delegates, which leads to a much improved learning transfer over the 2 day course.  In addition, we use a sample paper from the APM Group such that, at the end of each topic, delegates have the opportunity to answer the Practitioner style of questions under simulated exam conditions and to fully understand why the wrong answers are wrong.  The simple method of just looking at why the right answers are right does not inform delegates of why they were incorrect in their answer, so there is a much better preparation and improved chances of passing the examination.

The understandable desire of our customers to achieve a maximum return from their training has led to the public PRINCE2 course becoming increasingly compressed, thus placing increasing pressure on delegates.  However, individual circumstances dictate that some delegates may be disadvantaged by the large amount of pre-course preparation that must be completed, and the 2 to 3 hours of evening work, that is demanded by the compressed public course.  Some delegates have dependents to look after, or have other commitments outside of work in the evenings, or simply do not feel that they should be made to work in their own time, and so the necessary work does not get done.  In certain cases, this causes the delegate to fail the examination and the subsequent loss of morale that goes with failure, or the compressed course engenders feelings of resentment towards the employer, or there is a loss of faith in the method itself.  Any one of these situations will lead to the employer realising less benefits from the training than was originally intended.  This course will help to prevent these problems, but clearly the downside will be the higher cost of a 3 day course compared to a 2 day course.

Another additional benefit of a private event is that our trainer is able to adapt the course material to suit the needs of the organisation providing the delegates.  We are able to use real projects delivered by the organisation as examples and to explore each topic in the method and how this can be applied to future projects in the most appropriate and efficient way.  This is not possible with public events, which must cater for the needs of all the attendees and the various backgrounds and experience they have.

If you are considering booking a private event for PRINCE2 training, we can also offer a 4 day version of the Foundation course.  This offers similar benefits to the course described here, in that there are more exercises, better understanding and learning transfer, higher pass rates, training adapted to the needs of the customer and greater benefits from the training.  In both cases, please call for prices.

In the right circumstances, the additional cost is a price well worth the return in the enhanced quality of the training provided.

The purpose of the Practitioner qualification is to confirm whether the candidate has achieved sufficient understanding of how to apply and tailor PRINCE2 in a scenario situation. A successful Practitioner candidate should, with suitable direction, be able to start applying the method to a real project but may not be sufficiently skilled to do this appropriately for all situations. Their individual project management expertise, complexity of the project and the support provided for the use of PRINCE2 in their work environment will all be factors that impact what the Practitioner can achieve.

Candidates should be able to apply and understand how to tailor PRINCE2 effectively to a project within an organization environment supporting PRINCE2. Specifically candidates should:-

  • Understand the relationships between the roles, management products, principles, themes, techniques and processes
  • Be able to apply the principles, themes and processes to a project
  • Be able to create and assess management products.

Accreditation

This course leads to the PRINCE2 Practitioner level certification.  Delegates are prepared for the Practitioner examination and will normally take this examination on the third day of the course.  However, we have found that some delegates may benefit from having time to digest all the information disseminated on the course, or to give themselves extra time to prepare for the examination.  To facilitate this, Datrix have arranged for candidates to book the examination at a later date of their choosing.  This can be done at any time before 9-00am on the date of the scheduled examination.  If you would like to defer your Practitioner examination, or you would like further details, please visit the Exam Deferral page.

For further information regarding PRINCE2 examinations, please visit our Accreditation page.

Pre-Requisites and Pre-Course Preparation

Delegates must have attended a Foundation course, or achieved Foundation level qualification in a previous version.  Delegates that did not complete their Foundation course with Datrix may not have all the necessary knowledge expected of attendees for this course.  In particular, this may apply to those looking to renew their Practitioner accreditation, but can also apply to those who took Foundation courses with other training organisations, online or CD-ROM based learning and self study.

Pre-course preparation for this course involves attempting a sample Practitioner examination paper available in our Downloads section.  You may wish to download the Pre-Course Reading file, as this contains an example of the style of questions you will face in the live examination, and try the Practitioner sample paper found at the back of this booklet before trying the Sample Practitioner paper.  This may well indicate that a more detailed refresher is required, in which case delegates should book the Combined Foundation and Practitioner course.

Evening work is optional for this course, due to the increased time spent in the training room, but should involve no more than 1 hour of self study and reading.
